BLUE GILL

Also known as: Bream, brim, sunfish, perch and sun perch.


  • Grow to 10 inches long.


  • Prefer water temperatures in the 65-80° F range and will survive the winters of Utah.


  • Will spend a lot of time in the cervices of the pond forging for bugs.


  • Noted for their craving of insect and mosquito larvae. Will eat small fry and snails as well.


  • Bluegill will spawn from late May into September.


  • When young they eat algae and when food supply is short they revert to eating algae as an adult as well.


  • They are a schooling fish, but can be alone.


  • Do not catch bluegill in the wild and bring them home. It is illegal and they may also introduce disease and parasites into your pond.
